‘The Little Red Hen’ Readers Theatre
Narrator 1: Once upon a time a pig and a cat and a dog and a mouse and a
little red hen all lived together in a cozy little house.
Narrator 2: The pig liked to rest all day in the yard.
Narrator 3: The cat liked to sleep all day on the soft couch
Narrator 4: The dog liked to nap all day on the sunny back porch.
Narrator 5: And the mouse liked to snooze all day in the warm chair by the
fireside.
Narrator 1: So the little red hen had to do all the housework.
Narrator 2: She cooked the meals and washed the dishes and made the
beds.
Narrator 3: She swept the floor and washed the windows and mended the
clothes.
Narrator 4: She raked the leaves and mowed the grass and hoed the
garden.
Narrator 5: One day when she was hoeing the garden she found some grains of
wheat.
Little red hen: Who will plant this wheat?
Narrator 1: Cried the little red hen.
Pig: Not I.
Narrator 2: Said the pig.
Cat: Not I.
Narrator 2: Said the cat.
Dog: Not I.
Narrator 2: Said the dog.
Mouse: Not I.
Narrator 2: Said the mouse.
Little red hen: Then I will.
Narrator 2: Said the little red hen. And she did.
Narrator 3: Each morning the little red hen watered the wheat and pulled
the weeds.
Narrator 4: She the wheat pushed through the ground and began to grow
tall.
Narrator 5: When the wheat was ripe, the little red hen asked
Little red hen: Who will cut this wheat?
Pig: Not I.
